NICU Diary Day 45

Monday, November 20, 2000

Mommy and I had a really good time today with one of my favorite nurses, Wendy. Mommy held me for a long time and got me to suck on my pacifier quite a bit, especially during my noon and 3:00 p.m. feeding times.

I was off the ventilator for three hours this morning and again for three hours this afternoon. I'm also going to be off the ventilator late this evening for a total of 9 hours of solo breathing today! I did really well when I was off the ventilator while Mommy was there. Daddy came to visit me this evening while I was doing my second trial. He held me and helped the nurse do some of my trach care.

I still love meal times and am now up to 48 cc every three hours. That’s almost 13 ounces every day. I’m really getting chubby for a preemie!!!

Tomorrow will be a busy day. First thing in the morning, I'm going on a field trip to the third floor for a V.C.U.G. test. That's a test for kidney reflux. Mommy is praying that I don’t have it and won’t need more tests. I should also be having my eyes examined tomorrow since the doctor didn’t do it today.

Mommy and Daddy are also meeting the craniofacial surgeon tomorrow. If we stay at U of M, he will do my cleft palate repair, jaw distraction, and ear reconstruction. That's only IF Mommy and Daddy think he's the right man for the job! Mommy has a lot of questions, so I hope he's been forewarned about how much reading she's been doing!!!
